Question by melk921: How do you remove christmas tree from initial stand?
I need to get the tree off of the wood it came on (it's nailed on) and get it in the Christmas tree stand.

Have someone hold the tree while you hit the wood with a nice big hammer. Aim your blows parallel to the trunk, towards the base of the tree. Rotate the tree after each blow to slowly work the nails out of the trunk.
After you get the base off, saw a bit off the trunk to help the tree absorb water.
(I guess the shortcut method would be to just saw a hunk off of the trunk, base and all; but this assumes the tree has enough spare trunk to go around, which is not usually the case.)

We have an artificial tree at home, and it's not the best quality. The top is very flimsy! The star weighs it down and it looks like a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree! Anyway, I use black thread and hold the star up by the thread. You can have the thread help in place to the ceiling with a thumb tac. So, basically, the tree topper is 'hanging' over the tree, but is still on the tree. The weight of the topper is just supported by the thread (which, by the way, can't be seen).

This year we are living in an apartment and I am looking for a slender tree that is prelit. I can't find one anywhere that is slim enough. The bottom of the tree needs to be no wider than 36 inches. Most that say they are slim are atleast 50 inches which is too big for the space that I have. I really don't have another place to put one either.
