Question by : What are the traditional christmas tree ornaments?
I have read somewhere that there are certain ornaments for a christmas tree that are traditional and each has a meaning. The only one i can remember is a "pickle" and I think it means prosperity. Does anyone have any info on these? Also I think another was a bird of some sort.

It never fails. Every December someone asks about the German Christmas pickle ornament that's supposed to have a long tradition in Germany.
Here's the pickle “legend” from one Web site: “A very old Christmas eve tradition in Germany was to hide a pickle [ornament] deep in the branches of the family Christmas Tree. The parents hung the pickle last after all the other ornaments were in place. In the morning they knew the most observant child would receive an extra gift from St. Nicholas. The first adult who finds the pickle traditionally gets good luck for the whole year.” This Christmas pickle story, with a few minor variations, can be found all over the Web and in print inside the ornament package. It says that Germans hang a pickle-shaped glass ornament on the Christmas tree hidden away so it's difficult to find. The first child to find it on Christmas morning gets a special treat or an extra present.
Of course, anyone familiar with German Christmas customs can see the flaws in this “legend.” First of all, the German St. Nick doesn't show up on Christmas Eve. He arrives on the 5th or 6th of December. Nor do German children open their presents on Christmas morning. That happens on Christmas Eve in Germany

: Any cute ideas of characters for Christmas Tree ornaments?
I've been making hand-sewn felt Christmas ornaments to hand out as gifts, and possibly sell. So far I've been making Christmas Trees with beads sewn on it, a Rudolf Reindeer, a Snowman, and other misc. ornaments that aren't characters. But I thought it would be cute to come up with a gimmick of characters or something that are each related in some way. So people might prefer to own the whole collection of them... Idk how well I'm describing what I mean, but if you have any suggestions, please let me know?

Create a set of elves. Each of them can be working on a different toy or preparing a decoration. You could make one decorating a tree and another on a ladder with a star. People could put those two near each other on the tree and it would be like the ornaments told a story. You could even have elves making cookies and other decorating them, etc. Or show some preparing the sleigh and others taking care of the reindeer or dragging a big sack (for the sleigh). I would love to have ornaments that went together like a miniature story. It would be really cute.

Question by Barb: What is the best way to apply Christmas tree lights?
I usually start at the bottom of the tree and work my way
up, going around and around the tree until I get to the top.
But I have noticed on some Christmas trees, the cords to
the lights do not show. How is that done?

I start at the top and then work my way down and I push the lights in the tree a little to hlp hide the cord and in the places you can still see the cord I hang a ornament in front of it. I have also seen people cover their whole tree in tinsel and then you can't see the cords at all.
