I'm sure a lot of people have had a problem getting their child away from their tree. And, we're putting our tree up tonight, so it brings me to question... How do I keep my daughter away from our tree? I'm trying to teach her not to mess with things, and it isn't going so well yet.
I've heard about putting a baby gate around it, but we're slim on money.
We also have a two year old who likes to play with new things, like ornaments, I imagine.
We want our tree to stay in the center of the room... Should I go ahead and look for a cheap gate, try to keep her from the tree, or keep her in her toys while she is in that room? Keeping her in her toys just seems, I don't know... I wouldn't want to stay in one place, like that...
Any ideas, parents?

We got a small, pre-lit, 4' tree and put it up on a desk. It was only $ 30, I think. We also got the shatterproof ornaments, just in case, but really, our kids never messed with it. We held them up and let them look at it all the time, though, just so we weren't saying "no" all the time.
Oh, and for safety reasons, don't use tinsel if you have a little one who still puts things in their mouths. Tinsel can block the intestines and requires surgery to get it out.
